There wasn’t a background in the middle panel until I finished the rest of the pencils and decided that the page was a little too bare. The down side? Arena backgrounds take forever. I kind of miss the prison yard from the early chapters, those backgrounds were really quick. The second and third panels are easily my favourites on this page, though, so the effort was worth it.
Speaking of effort, I’ve started working on laying out the HEAT Volume 1 collection over the last couple of days. Chapter 1 has been scanned and formatted, but the page template still needs work. Ideally I’d like to have the book ready by the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in June, which seems doable.
