This is the first comic of the new update schedule! Comics will now be posted on Monday nights, probably during WWE RAW, both for the novelty of posting during RAW as well as the fact that I’m typically home and on the computer while it’s on. So it’s official: HEAT updates on Mondays now.
This was the first HEAT comic I’d drawn in over a month because I was finishing the second volume of my upcoming digital series, Grunts. It’s a good thing I finished when I did, since I had exactly one page remaining in my queue at that point. The paneling in this page, particularly the black gutters, is pretty reminiscent of Grunts, as it took a bit of an adjustment period to get back to the style of HEAT. Turns out drawing fat guys falling down doesn’t require an adjustment period, though, as it’s the natural state of comedy.
Next Monday: Fat guys falling down is the comedic gift that keeps on giving. It’s a good thing Uno likes to jump off of things, or we might be denied that hilarity.
Early update today, as I’m headed off to Real Canadian Wrestling’s Goldrush event tonight at the Glengarry Community Hall in Edmonton.
I’ve always been a fan of tag teams using the “twin” switch as a heel tactic, which was part of the reason why Los Gordinflones Negros were designed to look alike, the other reason being that I also really like teams where the members’ names are numbers, which requires that the members look alike to make any sense. There’s also a bit of a nod to the absurdity of the referee never noticing that “twins” frequently have their name written on their gear, or some other really obvious identifying feature. I didn’t want to go as far on the crazy scale as what I saw the WWF do with Demolition, on occasion, where after adding Crush to the team they would swap out members in the middle of match despite all three guys looking completely different.
On Saturday: Can Invincinator battle back from Los Gordinflones Negros’ switch, or will be be splatterfied by the Fatties?

I’ve finally written my review of the RCW show I went to… a month ago? Shit, that was not a good turnaround time at all. Anyway, that’ll be going up tomorrow, which is good since I’m going to have to push back Saturday’s update, because my school schedule is kicking my ass. My comic output has dropped off pretty significantly (about half of what I was doing per week previously), which I can hopefully adjust to fairly soon.

Whooo complicated action scene! Much like what I’m working on for HEAT right now, actually. Except that corner stomps, a body slam, and a leg drop were harder to draw than a stomp to the head and a shoulder block in the back. A lot harder.
I think this is also the first time that it’s been hinted that Los Gordinflones Negros are named Uno and Dos. Incidentally, a couple of pages ago I mentioned that a detail was missing from the LGNs’ costumes; that was it. Their names being on their tights and boots is as much for my benefit as it is for any kind of reference to wrestling “twin” logic. Wrestling “twin” logic, of course, being that twins usually have some identifying feature that lets the fans tell the difference between them, even if the other wrestlers, referees, and announcers pretend that they’re identical. I think the worst case of that (at least that I can remember off the top of my head) was with Demolition, where they pretended not to notice the completely different face paint or the fact that Smash had a big ol’ tattoo. I seem to recall they dropped that relatively quickly, although they kind of revived it when they added Crush to make them a three-man team. They came down with masks on so that the opponents wouldn’t know which two Demolition they were fighting until the match began. That being said, LGN have their names on their gear so that I can remember which one is which, because an experiment with them being identical led to me confusing the bejesus out of myself.
On Wednesday: Doc makes the troglodytes feel involved. They don’t appreciate it.
