It turns out that I have a lot of fun drawing headlocks. They’re something I find myself doodling quite a bit, along with German suplexes and lariats. You may or may not see both of those moves before the end of this match, he said, unsubtly hinting at the next few pages.
In other news, Edmonton Expo is coming up on September 28th and 29th! I’ll be at the Renegade Arts Entertainment booth promoting Jeff Martin’s The War of 1812, so stop by, say hi, and check out all of the cool stuff at the booth!
Next Week: Cockiness is a bitch. So are hammerlocks.
Just to continue what I said last week Kenta Kobashi vs Minoru Suzuki. Greatest use of the headlock ever. Suzuki might be a prick but Kenta knew how dangerous he was and kept him in a headlock for quite a while.
I really like this match. Dick has been built as a decent wrestler who’s just really effing tough and his opponent has been declared one by the old man himself. This just seems like it’ll be a hard hitting violent match. Not exactly hardcore but just physical brutality.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Kobashi/Suzuki, but I don’t have a strong memory of it. Suzuki’s matches are usually very good in terms of psychology and WHY things are being done, though, so I’m not surprised a headlock was used really well in one of his bouts.
I’m glad you’re digging the comic! I’ve been enjoying your comments looking at it like most people analyze TV wrestling!
As a fan of TEW and an avid reader of diaries I tend to see almost everything I read in a pro wrestling kind of way. It makes it difficult to read book through as I keep hoping that someone throws a lariat. I’m just hoping I get an opportunity to use pro wrestling storytelling in college. There’s just so many different angles to use. The up-and-coming rising star being attacked by a jealous villain, the past his prime legend who must deal with a newer and stronger generation but just won’t quit, the hero seeking redemption for his past actions as he fights his former allies and the always popular damsel in distress. There is just so much ways to tell a story and with how open wrestling is you can interwine and present all those stories in one show and have it build up and up to the final Wrestlemania style showdown.
BTW if you have time I would recommend reading this diary. I greatly recommend it.

Suzuki has been one of my favorites to watch. His status is similar to Lesnar as an MMA badass but while Lesnar is promoted by his power and brutality Suzuki is more subtle and skilled. Lesnar will crush you but Suzuki will break you piece by piece.
