Trying to figure out how the physics of a chair shot look when the target is upside down was a lot harder than I expected it to be. The springboard moonsault was pretty much exactly as difficult as I thought it was going to be.

This is the first HEAT page that was inked using the techniques I learned from Where Is Zog? Since starting Zog, I’ve been using a Pentel pocket brush to do a lot of my inking, as opposed to pens. It lets me do some things with line weights that pens aren’t particularly good at, such as the thickness change in the speed lines in panel two. It’s also just generally more fun than working with the pens, which, if I’m being honest, is as much of a factor as the advantages that it offers.

Welcome back, folks! It’s a new year and we’re starting off with a bang… or whatever noise you want a chair breaking over an ant’s head to make. I hope you all had a nice holiday, I know I got a lot of drawing done. And probably got fatter, because there were cookies and chocolate and egg nog pretty much everywhere.
The annual New Japan Tokyo Dome show is on right now, so it seems like perfect timing for HEAT to return. If I’m estimating correctly, Okada’s main event title defence against Tanahashi should be getting under way as I type this.
Now that HEAT is back, there’s also going to be some adjustments made to the Patreon page, primarily tweaking things to accommodate my new HeavyMetal.com project, Where Is Zog?

It only took 372 HEAT strips for the first chair shot to occur! Part of that involved figuring out how to either justify folding chairs existing unchanged in a thousand years, or to come up with a way for the floating chairs to hit somebody in a way that looked good. On the plus side, it means nobody is going to bother booking a Chairs match in the HEAT universe anytime soon, if ever.
