When I was writing HEAT, I strongly considered making this the first page. It would have been a great opener. I ended up going the way I did because I wanted to establish the characters a little before brutally mangling them. It also let me establish more background stuff that would be more awkward to explain if Dick already had ring experience. I really like how the slow pull-out from the blood pool worked, though.
Incidentally, readers who aren’t comfortable with blood… well this comic might not be for you. There’s a lot of it.
