There’s no 450 splash in this one, because I didn’t think of it, somehow. Also, y’know, that would have been terrible for the story flow. But also I didn’t think of it.

As much as it’s a terrible and unsafe thing to do, I LOVE the visual of garbage being thrown into the ring when a heel succeeds. Think about how much atmosphere it adds to the Hulk Hogan heel turn promo from Bash at the Beach 1996. The ring is full of trash, and then people started throwing garbage into it to highlight that. HEYO.
In other news, I just finished a six page short story for an upcoming book called Squatchthology, which is an anthology about sasquatch. I’m told that will be out in April, so keep an eye on the web store for that. Speaking of which, if you want to buy some books, hit up the “Buy Stuff” link in the menu bar. It works now! I filled some orders from it prior to Christmas, so it definitely works, unlike the previous attempt at a store. It’s almost like the folks at Square know what they’re doing, and I’m just an idiot who draws comics and has no idea how to do other things.

I have returned from Otafest! Just in time to update the comic and head out to VanCAF next weekend! If you’re in Vancouver, you should drop by, it’s free to attend, and there will be roughly twelve thousand cartoonists exhibiting. Naturally, I will be one of them, which means you should say hi and then give me money in exchange for comic books. Deal? Deal.
I’m writing the next chunk of HEAT right now, which reminded me that I haven’t written any HEAT strips in like four months. Which means I haven’t written a script with the word “fuck” in it in four months! Time to write a looooot of swear words.
Also, Elimination Chamber as a bonus PPV? Why yes, that sounds delightful, WWE Network. A TAG TEAM Elimination Chamber? Well now you’re just insisting that I go to my friend Dan’s house to watch it.

I don’t normally stray too far into the absurd with the moves in HEAT (or at least certainly less often than I do with the dialogue), but this one could be straight out of Ultimate Muscle for all of the dead Uno would be after taking it. I couldn’t bring myself to go all the way into manga territory and have Dick the Bastard leap a hundred feet in the air and have an entire conversation on the way down, though.
I needed something that would drop Uno on his head on the turnbuckle, kind of like a more homicidal version of El Generico’s Brainbustaaaah, and the Air Raid Crash seemed like a natural fit, especially when I remembered that Doc Crockett used one way back in Classic Wrestling Moment #2. I also love the name “Air Raid Crash.” It sounds totally badass, and much better than most of the other names it’s gone by.
I haven’t watched tonight’s episode of RAW yet, but apparently Jerry Lawler had a stroke or something. Hopefully he’s okay.

All right, so hopefully this autopost thing works properly. The comic isn’t showing up on the page preview, but the post databank lists the comic as being attached, so… yeah, don’t really know which one is right.
Edit: Okay, so autopost didn’t work. I have no idea WHY it didn’t work, but I just spent 12 hours drawing comics and don’t care even the slightest bit about figuring it out right now.
It only took 21 pages, but I’ve finally explained why Dick is wearing a viking helmet on the site banner and in his roster picture. And also what the point of Classic Wrestling Moments #2 was. The first Classic Wrestling Moment was done mostly as a promo image so that there was something on the site’s main page before I got the comic up and running, but also to introduce Mad Doc Crockett prior to the first scene and establish him as an experienced and successful wrestler. Once I realized how much fun it was to draw and thought a bit about its potential storytelling usefulness, I decided to use them as chapter breaks. I’ve drawn three of them so far, and have a few more written. Strangely, they’re more difficult to write than normal strips, because I have to create something that is both interesting on its own and subtley foreshadows something coming up in the following chapter.
While you’re reading this (assuming you’re reading it as it updates), I’m at Happy Harbor Comics participating in the 12 Hour Comic Challenge. I’m planning on doing a 12 page Hell, Inc. short story, but whatever I end up doing, drawing comics in a room with 23 other artists should be a blast.

Bonus update time! Mad Doc Crockett and Ragnar Rasmussen are back for another Classic Wrestling Moment. The other day I finished drawing #3, which will be the first one not to feature Doc and Ragnar.
Doc’s counter to Ragnar’s charge move was supposed to be a Mountain Bomb (which I couldn’t for the life of me remember while I was drawing this), but a couple of misplaced limbs and it turned into an Air Raid Crash. Check out the video below to see the Air Raid Crash in action, courtesy Alex Shelley. Which is probably a better move to end the match with, anyway. In another “during the pencils” change, the cage went from being the modern steel mesh cage to being a much more sci-fi energy cage. Because while PPW is very purposely on the low end of the tech scale, Galactic Wrestling is the big time. And the big time can afford to have a cage made out of energy beams.
On Wednesday: Chapter 2 begins with an equipment malfunction.
